According to Hindu tradition, King Kansa sent the powerful demon Keshi to kill Lord Krishna. The demon took the form of a gigantic horse and created fear throughout the region of Braj. When Keshi confronted Lord Krishna, a fierce battle took place near the banks of the Yamuna River. Lord Krishna ultimately defeated the demon and restored peace to the people of Braj. The place where this divine event is believed to have occurred became known as Keshi Ghat. Over time, devotees built ghats and places of worship in remembrance of this sacred pastime. Today, Keshi Ghat remains one of the most important spiritual landmarks in Vrindavan. Devotees visit the ghat to remember the divine victory of Lord Krishna, offer prayers to the Yamuna River, and experience the timeless spiritual atmosphere of Braj.
