The deity of Govind Dev Ji was discovered by Rupa Goswami, one of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan, following the instructions of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to rediscover the sacred places connected with Lord Krishna. As devotion to Govind Dev Ji spread, Raja Man Singh of Amber commissioned the construction of a grand temple in 1590. The original temple was built as a magnificent seven storey structure using red sandstone and quickly became one of the most impressive temples in northern India. During the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, the upper floors of the temple were damaged, and the original deity was later moved to Jaipur for protection. Today, Radha Govind Dev Temple continues to inspire devotees with its rich history, remarkable architecture, and deep spiritual significance. It remains one of the most important heritage temples in Vrindavan and a treasured symbol of Krishna devotion.
