Sri Varahaswamy Temple is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Tirumala. Dedicated to Lord Varaha, the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the temple is located on the banks of the holy Swami Pushkarini near Tirupati Balaji Temple. According to temple tradition, Tirumala was originally the sacred abode of Lord Varaha, and Lord Venkateswara sought His permission before residing on the Tirumala Hills. Even today, devotees traditionally offer prayers at Sri Varahaswamy Temple before visiting Tirupati Balaji Temple, making it an important part of the Tirumala pilgrimage.

According to sacred tradition, Lord Varaha rescued Mother Earth from the demon Hiranyaksha and chose the Tirumala Hills as His divine abode. Because of this, the hills came to be known as Adi Varaha Kshetra. When Lord Venkateswara descended to Tirumala, He first sought the permission of Lord Varaha to reside on the sacred hills. Lord Varaha graciously granted permission and requested that devotees should first offer prayers at His temple before having the darshan of Lord Venkateswara. This sacred tradition has been followed by pilgrims for centuries. Today, Sri Varahaswamy Temple is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Tirumala. Devotees believe that worshipping Lord Varaha before visiting Tirupati Balaji Temple completes the pilgrimage and brings divine blessings, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment.
